Franklin – Ann Mann Porter, 85, our loving wife and mother, passed away July 30, 2016. A native of Covington, she was the daughter of the late Paul Garrison and Mildred Kelley Mann and was a 1953 graduate of Radford College. She was active in Franklin Little Theatre and enjoyed playing mahjong and traveling with her husband. Ann was a volunteer for the Library of Congress writing personal histories of local veterans in the "Veteran History Project." Ann started the Ladies Investment Club in Franklin and was a member of the DAR. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, M. Gilbert Porter; her son, Gregory Scott Porter and his wife, Alysa, of Windsor; a brother, David Mann of Covington and three grandchildren, Brittany Perry , Justin Porter and Porter Allen.
The funeral will be conducted at 4PM Tuesday in High Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nathan Decker officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 PM at Wright Funeral Home and requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to HSUMC or the Alzheimer's Association.
