Obituary

Capron- Elizabeth Ann Ridley Bain, age 97, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at her son's home near Pinopolis in Capron.

Born and raised at Violet Hill in Courtland, Virginia, she graduated from Courtland High School in 1941.  She attended Longwood College in 1941-1942.  While working at the Treasurer's Office for Mr. V.S. Pittman, Sr, she met her future husband.  She married him at Violet Hill in 1947 with her grandfather Rev. W.L. Burks presiding.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 56 years, H. Lee Bain, Jr., her parents, Churchill Gibson and Ina Burks Ridley, her sisters Gwendolyn Ridley Gillette and Ina Ridley Pittman, one granddaughter Lee Ann Ford, and two daughters-in-law Lenore Kline Bain and Carol Cobb Bain.

She was a longtime member of the Capron United Methodist Church participating in the Ladies Bible Class and Chancel Choir.  An avid gardener with a talent for creating beautiful flower arrangements, she was a former member of the Country Acres Garden Club.  She was also a member of the Franklin Christian Women's Club.  Her favorite activities at Pinopolis were baking, perfecting new recipes, and entertaining her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Harriet Bain Duck (Richard), her sons, C. Ridley Bain (Sharon), W. Pond Bain (Betty Jo), Thomas H. Bain; grandchildren, R. Penn Bain (Amy), Kyle C. Bain (Ava), Jamie B. Bain (Erica), Lee A. Bain, Bain C. Ford, Andrew D. Bain (Amy), Scott C. Bain (Monica), David Ridley Bain,  Lauren Elizabeth "Libby" Bain, Karen Bennett Bain (Kent), Tiffany A. Pecht (Laine), Jessica M. Hoffman (Andrew), Alexandra M. Rawls (John), Rachel M. Wright (Alan), Morgan M. Thomas (Chris); and 20 great grandchildren. A special thank you to Sharon Rose, Jocelyn Adams, and all others who cared for her during her last days.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, in Capron Cemetery with Rev. Fred Brockhausen presiding.  Due to the pandemic all those wishing to attend are please asked to wear masks.  A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at the Capron United Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Capron United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. James Nicholson, 21128 Popes Station Road, Capron, VA 23829.
