Amy Lynne Kangas Arrington

October 28, 1968 - August 1, 2024

Courtland – Amy Arrington passed away on August 1, 2024 at the age of 55.  She was a native of Norfolk, Virginia and was the daughter of Sue and Larry Kangas.  She was a graduate of Granby High School and Virginia Wesleyan University.

Amy lived her entire life in the Hampton Roads area.  She worked for Bank of America for over twenty five years where she ended her career there as a project manager.  After leaving the financial industry, Amy had a desire to complete her college degree.  She went back to college not for professional gain but for personal satisfaction.  Amy graduated as part of the Class of 2018 as a VWU Marlin with a degree in business.  Amy being the overachiever that she was, of course, graduated magna cum laude.

After graduation Amy went to work at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church where she was Director of Business Operations.  She was already a member of this church and called it her church home for over twenty five years.

Amy was extremely analytical and was a problem solver—she referred to herself as a modern day Nancy Drew.  She loved history and enjoyed going antiquing.  Even though Amy lived in the city, she enjoyed taking a country drive in Southampton County and ultimately became an exceptional deer spotter.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of twenty five years, Kevin Lee Arrington, and her sisters Jeannie Vande Linde and Jacquie Andrews, her brothers Lawrence Kangas, Patrick Johnson (and wife Shauna) and Shawn Kangas, nieces Elizabeth Kos, Renee Richards, and Melissa Richards, and great nephew Jack Readdy.  She is also survived by her mother-in-law Jacquelyn Cogsdale Arrington and brother-in-law Charles James Arrington, III and a dear friend, Myra Nuzzo.

She was predeceased by her father-in-law Charles James Arrington, Jr.

A celebration of Amy's life will be on Friday, August 23, at 11:00 am at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church where a reception will follow.

Amy loved animals especially kittens and was a gracious giver to many causes.  She also endured many medical treatments and clinical research trials to benefit herself as well as humankind.  So, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made through memorial contributions to one's favorite charity.
