Courtland – Adelle B. Collier, 95, passed away January 9, 2014. She was a native of Southampton County, VA and a daughter of the late Millard Roland and Susie Bradshaw Bryant. Mrs. Collier was a 1936 graduate of Newsoms High School and an avid sports enthusiast, participating in the Senior Olympics since 1988 winning multiple gold, silver and bronze medals. She was a retired bookkeeper of Jones Drug Store in Franklin and a member of Courtland Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Claiborne Collier; her son, Tommy Collier and four brothers, Millard R. Bryant, Gilbert Bryant, Leslie Bush Bryant and J. B. Bryant.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kay Powell, and husband, Gary, of Augusta, GA and Connie Whitehead and husband, Gene, of Branchville, VA; two sisters, Alyce Kitchen and Joyce Spivey of Franklin, VA; five grandchildren, Stephanie Edwards, Jennifer Osterhoudt, Stephen Crocker, Amanda McCune and Clay Collier; three step-grandchildren, Dawn Powell, Kathy Powell and Adam Whitehead; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with Dr. Gary R. Powell and the Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
